How to fit a Monkey exhaust onto a DAX
I decided my dax exhaust was too rough to stay on my bike today as the note has increased to beyond enjoyable proportions now...
I had a jincheng 90 monkeybike exhaust I had aquired some time back and decided to see what would be involved fitting it to a dax.. Ok the fitting was real easy so I decided to do a FAQ on it..
***This does depend on wether or not you have an aftermarket coil fitted leaving the coil mounting hole nearest the front of the frame free***
Tools needed:
- 10mm spanner.
- 19mm spanner.
- 10mm drill bit and suitable drill device.
- 13mm Bolt approximately 30mm long and 2 13mm nuts to match.
- Very thin and long bendy fingers (MINE AINT BUT REMOVING THE KNUCKLES DOES MAKE IT EASIER).
Remove the old exhaust from your bike as per norm:
19mm nut on shock absorber, 2 x 10mm nuts on exhaust studs on head
Using 10mm spanner remove and turn around AND upside down the bracket on the back of the monkey exhaust
Now for the fiddly bit...
Remove the battery and cradle, and unplug the two wires going to the brake light switch and remove the switch. Fit the 13mm headed bolt through the hole where the wires went through the frame and fix it in place with one of the nuts on the outside. This also spaces the exhaust away from the frame slightly.
Using the 10mm drill open up the unused coil mounting hole and fit the switch wires through this hole as far as they will go. Fish the other ends of the loom from under the frame and re-attatch the wires inside the frame (this is what the slim bendy fingers are from). Refit the battery and cradle etc and refit your brake light switch as normal.
***The reason for attatching the wires first is its easier to connect up with spare cable on the inside of the frame***
Miraculously when you offer the monkey exhaust up with the bracket turned round and inside out the hole on the mounting bracket meets the bolt you just fixed in the frame almost perfectly.. job done.
It clears the kick-start... it stays cooler than the dax one did.... and I reckon it looks ACE
