What are the best sprockets for my bike?

Another quite easy way to make your bike more powerful, change the sprockets! Let's say you have a 14-38 configuration on a standard Dax., and you have replaced the CDI unit with an unrestricted one. Your bike now has more power and revs more easily, and therefore is being held back by the gearing on the bike.

If you can change the sprockets your bike now has enough power to reach a higher top end speed. If you want more top speed you should make your gearing “taller” ie you should either put a bigger front sprocket or a smaller rear sprocket on the bike.

The cheapest way to go is to buy a bigger front sprocket as they cost less!

Instead of 14-38 try 15-38 of even 16-38.

Now you'll notice your bike will now go faster. However a word of warning this will only be effective within the engine's power range, so don't buy the biggest front-sprocket you can find because your bike probably won’t handle that kind of configuration. You may find if you take the gearing too high the bike won’t reach its top speed due to the lack of power in the engine.

You can also use this method the other way around, you can buy a smaller front sprocket or a bigger rear sprocket to make you bike accelerate faster, for instance, buy a 13 and you'll notice your bike reaches it's top speed more easily and faster!

The only problem about this method is that your engine revs higher and if the configuration is much to light it's top speed will probably be lower.

Simple rule:

Bigger front sprocket/smaller rear sprocket ' more top speed, less acceleration
Smaller front sprocket/bigger rear sprocket ' more acceleration, less top speed

This is just the basic of the whole sprocket story but it's pretty simple, to find the best combination for your bike you'll just have to experiment with a few sprockets, again the easiest way is to buy a few front sprockets and just try to figure out what's best for your bike.
